Having your roof replaced is a big investment. Knowing this, roof repair is the preferred option over roof replacement. If done in a timely manner, repairs will only cost a fraction of what a roof replacement would have cost. It can also increase your roof’s life span. But, how do you know if your roof needs repairs? As a roofing expert, we specialize in both roof repair and roof replacement.  Below is a list of signs that show when it’s time to replace your roof.

Curling Shingles

Curling shingles are a sign of both an aging roof and
excessive heat. When shingles are curled they are highly susceptible to wind
damage and ice damage. The shingles will then become rigid and could possibly break
easily and lose tab edges.

Missing Granules and
Bare Spots

The aging of your roof or physical damage can cause bare spots and a loss of granules. This is why we recommend not walking on your roof unless absolutely necessary. When the protective granules of a shingle are lost the shingles then begin to harden from heat and sun exposure. After granule loss on your roof, it will then accelerate aging and shingle decay. This will then become an entry point for water.

Broken/Missing
Shingles

Two of the most common causes of damaged shingles are excessive wind and physical damage. Being in Lubbock, Texas we know a thing or two about excessive wind. When you see any missing shingles from a wind storm, make sure to call a reputable roofing company for the repair. Having broken or missing shingles will weaken your roofs ability to shed water which can then cause leaks within your home.

Buckling Shingles

Shingles that are buckled are always visible and you can usually see the distortion that runs up your roof slope. Having buckled shingles are highly susceptible to wind and ice damage and can be torn off very easily.

If you happen to notice any of the above happenings to your roof, you may need to have your roof repaired or replaced. As always, we recommend calling a local certified roofing contractor. A roof leak is not always apparent immediately on the inside of your home. It can damage insulation which could cause the replacement to grow in cost.
